Membership Scholarship

Scholarship for BIPOC Event Professionals

International Live Event Association Minneapolis/St. Paul is pleased to offer a scholarship opportunity for a full year’s membership with the Minneapolis/St. Paul Chapter.

What is ILEA MSP?

The International Live Events Association (ILEA) is a global community of thousands of creative event professionals whose skills, expertise, and experience power some of the most influential live events around the world.

The Minneapolis-St. Paul Chapter of ILEA is a diverse group of event professionals serving the needs of the business and social community. We are dedicated to continuing the advancement of quality and professionalism while upholding the highest ethical standards within the live event industry. We promise to respect and support each other by providing professional education and opportunities for networking in an atmosphere of fun.

A unique association, ILEA connects independent/corporate/association/non-profit and educational planners and producers, venues, transportation services, catering, design, floral, rental, technical, and production suppliers all under one umbrella. As the special events industry continues to become an active force in our ever-changing economy, our members are the human voices and talent driving the local industry. You can read even more about our history and mission here.

Who is eligible?

This scholarship aims to improve access to association membership for any current or emerging talent in the live events industry.

This year (2023/2024) eligibility is being offered exclusively to BIPOC event professionals as ILEA MSP aims to ensure it is continuing to work on improving access and inclusion to the resources we have available within our association and to amplify perspectives and voices that typically go unrepresented in the Twin Cities events community.

What will the Scholarship Recipient Receive?

  • A one-year scholarship to the International Live Event Association (value of $350)
  • Complimentary attendance to all monthly programs, membership events, and pop-ups through June 30, 2024. (estimated value of $420-$280).
  • Complimentary attendance to the annual MN Star Awards 2024 (value of $125)

Total scholarship value: $895

The 2024 Scholarship application is now closed.

The primary objective of this application form is not to evaluate candidates based on their grammatical or typographical proficiency, but rather to assess the level of enthusiasm and involvement that applicants exhibit towards our local chapter. It is our aim to ensure that the resources allocated for this sponsorship are granted to individuals who recognize that active participation in the ILEA community enhances the overall value derived. It is important to note that the scholarship does not entail mandatory attendance requirements; however, we strongly encourage applicants to participate in as many programs, meetings, and events as possible to fully capitalize on the benefits of ILEA-MSP membership.

Best Industry Advice: Bring a five-gallon water cooler with a spout to your events. They are good for filling floral vases, hydrating, and quick cleaning!

JR Treto, CMP
Director of Events, The College Club

JR has only been involved with ILEA-MSP for less than a year but has been involved in other events organizations for several years. Leading the logistical planning for the College Board's six large-scale conferences, he has succeeded in bringing awareness to the LGBTQ+ community through several initiatives. He is particularly proud to have spoken at their recent Prepárate conference where he shared his story as a Latino, gay man and how educators can help the next generations in creating safe spaces for people like him.

Best industry advice you’ve been given or would give?

To make time to keep learning. We need to make time to read industry blogs and publications, attend educational conferences, and research other resources to keep our knowledge current and skills sharp. We have to stay curious or else we will remain stagnant which impacts the events we produce and ultimately the attendee experience.

Dream Party Theme: Masquerade Party! I love a good mask!

Walk Out Song: "Danza Kuduro" by Don Omar. It is my hype song.
